“Brachial Plexus Birth Injuries and Surgical Management as Part of Interdisciplinary Care: An Updated Review”
Year: 2025
Type: preprint
Abstract: Obstetricians counsel pregnant patients and partners on the risks of childbirth, including brachial plexus birth injury (BPBI), at which time there is an opportunity to mention early referral to a center that offers multidisciplinary care to patients with BPBIs. Early referral for BPBI significantly improves patient outcomes. In certain cases of BPBI, surgical intervention is indicated and improves function for the patient and quality of life for them and their family. This article is a collaboration between obstetricians, plastic surgeons, and neurosurgeons with the aim to provide a review of BPBI with focus on indications and options for surgical management.
