Increasing transport sustainability through the integration between power grids and electric mobility systems
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Transportation electrification is a fundamental pillar of sustainable mobility and climate mitigation strategies worldwide. While electric vehicles (EVs) offer significant reductions in greenhouse gas emissions, their integration into existing power grid infrastructure presents new challenges in demand management, grid stability, and energy accessibility. As cities and nations accelerate the deployment of EVs, addressing these concerns becomes crucial to ensure a seamless, efficient, and equitable transition. This collection, the first ever of the new npj journal on sustainable mobility and transport, examines critical advances in charging optimization, vehicle-to-grid (V2G) strategies, and the role of governance in shaping an integrated transport-energy landscape.
