Methodological foundations for studying the relationship between enterprise digitalization and labor productivity

Abstract: The article examines modern Russian and international methods for assessing the degree of digitalization of industrial enterprises and its impact on labour productivity. The authors propose a classification of approaches to assessing enterprise digitalization, including the following criteria: the objectivity of the indicators and the method of grouping them. Within each category, subgroups are distinguished, depending on the source and method of information collection and processing. When using objective indicators, the data source includes statistical reports and information obtained through the content analysis of textual arrays formed on the basis of annual reports of the companies under study. For the category of subjective indicators, which are collected through questionnaires and surveys, a preliminary theoretical analysis and mathematical and statistical methods are employed. An integrated approach is also used, which combines both objective and subjective indicators. The current range of methodologies does not permit the identification of a unified approach for assessing the state of digital transformation within enterprises. A proposed approach based on the factor analysis of data from digital passports of industrial enterprises within the State Industrial Information System will aid in identifying groups of business processes related in terms of their digital transformation. Further, cluster analysis will be conducted to identify groups of organizations based on their level of digital transformation. The next stage involves conducting variance analysis to evaluate the relationship between the identified clusters and economic indicators such as labor productivity. This proposed approach has the potential to provide a better understanding of the decision-making processes of organizations regarding digital transformation and to form a new perspective on the connection between digital transformation and labor productivity.
