Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: A gemstone engraved with the figure of Mercury was discovered in a tomb south of Tel Ashqelon, possibly connected to the role of Mercury as the messenger and guide to Hades.Based on its high quality and workmanship, the gem was attributed to the Imperial Classicizing Style of the first-second centuries CE.As it was found in a third-early fourth century CE burial, the gemstone, a luxury artifact, was likely handed down from generation to generation.
