Abstract: The Election Law of 27 March 1926 and Its Impact on Romanian Political Life, 1926–1937 The Electoral Law of 27 March 1926 was the first electoral law which applied across the whole territory of Greater Romania, as the parliamentary elections of 1919, 1920 and 1922 were organized based on different voting system. Inspired by the Fascist Law Acerbo, the Romanian electoral law was intended to insure a comfortable Parliamentary majority for the ruling party, since the opposition was weak, fragmented and unable to exert any significant influence on the government. During the entire interwar period, a “reverse” practice of election organization was maintained by the newly formed government, rather than the new government’s formation being decided by the results of elections. Instead of government emanating from parliament, as was normal, in Romania the parliament was the product of government.
