The Prehistoric Artefacts from Orșova in the Collections of the Former History and Archaeology Society of Hunedoara County, Romania
Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: The collections of the former History and Archaeology Society of Hunedoara County, currently part of the patrimony of the Museum of Dacian and Roman Civilisation Deva, contained, while it was active (1880–1923), many different items from the fields of history, archaeology, ethnography and the natural sciences. These included a small lot of prehistoric artefacts labelled as from Orșova (Mehedinți County): a serpentinite perforated axe, a fragment of a Gáva culture pot, a clastic limestone plug and a chert flake. Although our modest contribution brings forth a relatively small number of artefacts, discovered in uncertain circumstances at the end of the nineteenth century or the beginning of the twentieth century, its purpose is to enrich the archaeological data on the prehistory of Orșova
