Abstract: One of the most important responsibilities of a teacher is their contribution towards each student’s development of personality and character. The best time to build a foundation is during the formative years of primary education. One of the best ways an educator can accomplish this is through children’s literature. Psychologist have reached a conclusion and affirmed that education through artistic literature is one of the most important contributions towards the development of a child’s personality. Children interact with the emotions and experiences of the characters in text thus leading to engagement and a passion for reading. Children are also introduced to the power of good and the consequences of evil, creativity is stimulated and the desire for knowledge is planted in their souls. The stories children read are the best extensions of fantasy and play. With the use of their imagination they engage themselves in the text and enter world they hear in their mind and judge according to the way they perceive reality. The more compelling the story, the more chances exist for children to understand the moral of the story and learn something from their favorite character in the text.
