Abstract: The complexity of Critical Discourse Analysis presents challenges for English as Foreign Language learners, hindering their ability to apply its principles effectively. This study addresses the gap in understanding how Critical Discourse Analysis can improve English as Foreign Language learners' proficiency.Research questions include: What is the role of Critical Discourse Analysis in English as Foreign Language learning? How can Critical Discourse Analysis aid in teaching English as a foreign language? The study aims to identify Critical Discourse Analysis's role in teaching and demonstrate its impact on language proficiency. The hypotheses propose that: Using Critical Discourse Analysis as a teaching approach will enhance learners' ability to analyze and understand English discourse, leading to improved language proficiency and critical thinking skills; incorporating Critical Discourse Analysis into the learning process will positively impact linguistic abilities and cognitive development; Critical Discourse Analysis should be a standard component of English language education programs; Critical Discourse Analysis will help promote cultural awareness and sensitivity among learners.Norman Fairclough's Critical Discourse Analysis model, integrated with Halliday's Systemic Functional Linguistics, is adopted for this study.A questionnaire with ten questions was administered to 50 third-level English as Foreign Language students at Al-Iraqia University.Responses were measured using variables: Strongly agree, agree, neutral, disagree, and strongly disagree. Results show positive responses (44.4% agree, 19% strongly agree) towards Critical Discourse Analysis in English as Foreign Language education, with neutral (12.4%) and negative responses (13.8% disagree, 10.4% strongly disagree) indicating some resistance. This mixed-methods study provides a comprehensive analysis, highlighting the potential benefits and challenges of integrating Critical Discourse Analysis into English as a foreign language instruction.
