Study on the effect of load on the structural response of projectile during penetration process

Type: article
Abstract: To delve deeper into the dynamic behaviors of a typical projectile structure subjected to multi-pulse loading, this paper focuses on the scenario of a projectile positively penetrating an equally spaced, multi-layer target. It proceeds by designing multi-pulse excitation loads that vary in temporal intervals and amplitudes. These designed loads are subsequently incorporated into an experimental model to systematically investigate how load parameters, specifically the pulse period, pulse width, and pulse amplitude, influence the amplification of the projectile structure's vibration response. Additionally, a theoretical model is formulated to validate and ensure the reliability of the experimental findings obtained. The results show that: Variations in the pulse period can elicit vibration superposition, thereby markedly altering the magnitude of the projectile charge's acceleration response. The peak value of the acceleration response of the projectile charge increases for high amplitude loads compared to low amplitude loads in a half-sine shock, but the magnification of the charge acceleration response may decrease. There is indeed a 'small load, large response'.
