Innovative Applications and Effectiveness Evaluation of AI Technology in Blended Learning Models for English Majors in the Digital Age

Abstract: In the digital age, artificial intelligence (AI) technology has revolutionized education, particularly in English language learning. This study focuses on the innovative applications and the effectiveness of AI in blended learning models for English majors at Guangzhou Institute of Science and Technology(GIST), as well as challenges and limitations of AI technology in actual learning. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of AI technology in enhancing English proficiency for English majors. The research subjects are 275 English-major students from GIST. The study adopted a questionnaire survey to assess students' levels of English proficiency in the application of of AI technology. The results revealed that the application of AI technology in blended learning models significantly improved students' English proficiency, including vocabulary, inflection, cloze, reading comprehension, translation, and writing. Moreover, this study also summarizes applications of AI technology in blended learning model, including personalized learning recommendation system, intelligent assisted learning tools and AI-empowered blended learning processes. Furthermore, this study investigates challenges and limitations of AI technology in actual learning, including technical limitations, data privacy and security issues, and lack of interpersonal interaction. Meanwhile, suggestions were raised to ensure that AI can empower the blended learning more effectively and safely.
