Abstract: Institutions with a long tradition are leaving their mark on the functioning of the comunity. Due to the fact there are fewer possibilities in villages, it may be material for analysis. In Besko – town in the Podkarpacie – this institution is the Brass Band of the Volunteer Fire Department. It was established in the 1920s. Its activity is visible all year round. All celebrations, church, state and municipal are accompanied by music. The musicians adapt their repertoire to the character of the event. Each celebration in Besko looks different, their elements and orders change and have specific features. However, the Brass Band at the Volunteer Fire Department in Besko is permanent through this event. Therefore, their overlooked, almost marginalized role should be recognized.
