Special Anatomy: A simple approach to localizing lesions: “Reverse mouse in maze” game for the lumbosacral plexus
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: The “reverse mouse in maze game” was developed to teach physicians the brachial plexus. Using electromyography (EMG), the game highlights paths where lesion(s) are possible and strikes out others until a lesion is localized by overlapping highlights. This manuscript expands the game's utility by both applying it to examples of lumbosacral plexus (LS) lesions and incorporating nerve conduction studies (NCS) into its algorithm. Inefficient muscle selection while localizing lesions can result in additional needle sticks and unnecessary discomfort. With a strong foundation of fascicular anatomy, the simple rule in the “reverse mouse and maze” game can quickly localize lesion(s).
