Urban Agriculture for Environmental Sustainability: Perception of City Dwellers

Abstract: Urban Agriculture (UA) is the part and parcel of modern farming systems which plays pivotal role in ensuring food security for the global population. The study investigated the perception of city dwellers on the role of urban agricultural systems for environmental sustainability. The mostly adopted urban farming practice was rooftop gardening (93.5%). Results explore that most (94.5%) of city dwellers perceived high to medium role of UA on environmental sustainability. Conversely, reducing cost of livings (92.5%) was perceived as the most potential role of this intervention. Therefore, well planned, and appropriate strategies can enhance urban environmental sustainability precisely.
