Micrografting and Other Regeneration Techniques for the Argan Tree (Argania spinosa): A PRISMA-Based Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
Year: 2025
Type: review
Abstract: The argan tree (Argania spinosa), native to southwestern Morocco, is essential for arid and semi-arid ecosystems, providing key products such as argan oil, which is vital for the local economy. But, it is facing increasing pressures from modern agriculture, deforestation, and climate change. This systematic review, using the PRISMA approach, evaluates various propagation methods, including seed germination and micropropagation. Seed germination is straightforward, but it has low success rates, whereas cutting and grafting offer faster rooting and preserve genetic characteristics. Bibliometric analyses indicate a growing research interest in the argan tree since 2016, particularly in the context of conservation. The acclimatization of in vitro plants is crucial for their success outside the laboratory. Collaboration among stakeholders is essential to balance economic viability and ecological sustainability.
