Entre persona y cosa: las dimensiones políticas del fragmento corporal en Persona de José Carlos Agüero y Adiós, Ayacucho de Julio Ortega

Type: article
Abstract: In this article, I examine two works of art that depict the figure of the victim in its condition of a fragmented and abused body in the context of the Peruvian armed conflict: Adiós, Ayacucho (1986) by Julio Ortega and Persona (2017) by José Carlos Agüero. Following Roberto Esposito’s reflection on “the dispositif of the person”, I show how both texts invoke the fragmented image of human remains from its indeterminate ontological condition between thing and person to explore and problematize the possibilities of agency of the victim. On the one hand, Ortega’s novel executes a personalization of the fragmented body to reinsert the victim within the realm of law. On the other hand, textually and visually, Agüero questions the possibilities of representation of the victim, and from the realm of the impersonal, investigates biopolitical perspectives of violence through interventions in his family memory.
