Demonstration of an Advanced Rectification Strategy on a Linear Generator for Better Electricity Quality

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: This article focuses on the features of a linear power generation system with free piston internal combustion, including periodic phase sequence changes and a wide range of amplitude-frequency adjustments in the electrical energy output. The analysis of the power generation characteristics of this system during stable power generation and the study of rectification control strategies for three-phase electrical energy were carried out. Rectification methods were then proposed based on this, including uncontrolled rectification, PWM rectification based on PI control strategy, and composite control strategy based on model predictive sliding mode control (MPSMC). A model predictive sliding mode composite control algorithm was presented as a control approach to optimize conventional PWM rectification. This article studies different rectification strategies from three aspects: robustness, accuracy, and responsiveness. The simulation results demonstrate that the large output electrical energy ripple and uncontrollable rectification output voltage will further distort the phase current on the linear motor side. It was found that the current work cycle is longer, the linear motor's end phase current does not cause distortion, and the model predictive sliding mode composite control can steadily adjust the output voltage in comparison to PWM rectification.
