Qtc Interval Prolongation: Role of Polypharmacy, Drug Interaction and Considerations for Clinical Practice
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Highlights Acquired long QT syndrome is a rare disease, but the frequency of QTc prolongation increases with polypragmasia. Abstract Acquired long QT syndrome is a rare condition. However, the prevalence of prolonged QTc interval increases among patients with polypharmacy. The risk of both QTc interval prolongation and torsades de pointes (TdP) tachycardia escalates exponentially with the concomitant use of multiple QTc-prolonging drugs. This article explores the underlying mechanisms of the condition and methods to mitigate the risk of potentially fatal arrhythmias.
