Cover Feature: Upcycling Textile Waste into Anionic and Cationic Cellulose Nanofibrils and Their Assembly into 2D and 3D Materials (ChemSusChem 9/2025)
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: The Cover Feature illustrates the transformation of two pieces of cotton clothing into cellulose nanofibrils with two distinct surface chemistries. The colors indicate the surface chemistry of each type of nanofibril: carboxylic groups in blue and quaternary ammonium groups in red. The neon effect highlights the functionalization of the garments, which is essential for optimal fibril formation. These nanofibrils can be further processed into lightweight materials such as nanopapers and anisotropic foams. More information can be found in the Research Article by M.-X. Ruiz-Caldas, A. P.
