Abstract: In their most recent book, historians of biology Miguel García-Sancho and James Lowe set out to decenter the Human Genome Project (HGP) as the dominant master narrative in the historiography of genomics. The HGP “was just one among other forms of genomics that historically emerged throughout the 1980s and 1990s” (p. 23). They drive this point home by conducting a comparative socio-historical analysis of different communities involved in sequencing and annotating genomes of the brewer’s yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae), human (Homo sapiens), and pig (Sus scrofa).
