Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: The article presents the results of the analysis of phraseological units that make up the core of the idiomatics of the Berlin urban language and are the keepers of the Berlin cultural code. The purpose of the research is to study the origins and mechanisms of the embodiment of cultural information in the semantics of phraseological units, which are defined by the native inhabitants of the German capital, speakers of the language form Berlinerisch, as markers of Berlin identity. Based on the analysis of phraseological Berlinisms and their figurative bases from the standpoint of the linguacultural method, the spheres of culture characteristic of this socio-cultural community are identified, which are represented by symbolic components associated with the history, social and cultural life of Berlin. The subject areas that are most actively subject to figurative cultural comprehension in the composition of Berlin phraseological units are established, namely, urban realities, including toponyms and urbanonyms, anthroponyms and gastronomy. Phraseological units with these components are the result of coding cultural information about historical events, persons, realities, facts that have acquired the character of cultural symbols, standards, stereotypes in the consciousness of Berliners. The cultural meanings embedded in phraseological Berlinisms form the basis of the Berlin cultural code and reflect the peculiarities of thinking and mentality characteristic of a given society, as well as the specifics of the corresponding socio-cultural context. The results of the study of phraseological Berlinisms and the methods of decoding the cultural information contained in them, proposed in the article, can serve as the basis for further comprehensive study of the Berlin code of culture and the features of its verbal component – the Berlin urban language
