Integrated information system for demercurization and precious metal recovery from spent coal sorbents in Kazakhstan’s gold extraction industry
Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: The integrated information system optimizes the demercurization of spent coal sorbents and enhances precious metal recovery in Kazakhstan’s gold extraction industry. It addresses mercury contamination by simulating the efficiency of various demercurization techniques, including thermal desorption and chemical leaching, based on key parameters such as temperature, pressure, and reagent use. The system also predicts gold recovery efficiency from treated sorbents, evaluating the economic feasibility of the process. With real-time monitoring and data input, it allows users to explore different scenarios, optimize recovery processes, and reduce environmental impacts. Using Industry 4.0 tools, the system offers advanced data management, interactive dashboards, and detailed reports to aid decision-making. Its main benefits include improved resource utilization, reduced mercury emissions, and more sustainable mining practices. Additionally, the system provides flexibility for future upgrades, such as incorporating new demercurization technologies and further improving the recovery of other valuable metals. While the system relies on accurate data input and model assumptions, it is expected to significantly improve environmental and economic outcomes in Kazakhstan’s gold mining industry, contributing to global efforts in responsible mining.
