Abstract: This paper explores the application of numerical methods to solve the two-dimensional heat equation, focusing on modelling the urban heat island (UHI) effect in Beijing, China. By utilizing the finite difference method (FDM) and solving finite difference equations iteratively using Python, our team simulated temperature variations between urban and rural zones and the heat transfer across different areas. Our results confirmed the presence of heat flow from urban to rural areas and the intensifying UHI effect over time.
