Abstract: BJOG . 2025;132:1238–1239. doi: 10.1111/1471-0528.18206. Induction of labor (IOL) is common and recommended to reduce risks with specific pregnancy diagnoses, including stillbirth and hypertensive disorders of pregnancy. Though it is common and recommended, there is a postulated association of IOL with cesarean delivery (CD). Augmentation of labor is also common and utilized to minimize risks such as chorioamnionitis. A recent study published by Balki and colleagues (above Abstracts) evaluated the effect of propranolol as a method to improve uterine contractility during induction and augmentation of labor. This article is a mini commentary on this original research.
