Optimizing Anode Design for Improved Cathodic Protection in Torpedo Tube Anti-Corrosion Applications
Year: 2025
Type: conference-paper
Abstract: Current sacrificial anode protection methods employed in the cathodic protection design of submarine torpedo tubes often suffer from inefficiencies and considerable material waste. This paper presents a comprehensive study aimed at enhancing the anticorrosion design quality for submarine torpedo tubes by developing a refined sacrificial anode design calculation method. This method takes into account multiple factors, including sacrificial anode shape, coating breakage rate, marine environmental conditions, installation techniques, and dosage requirements. We investigate the impact of the sacrificial anode’s cross-sectional geometry on its functional performance through a combination of theoretical calculations and simulation analyses. Our findings reveal that sacrificial anodes with a rectangular cross-section yield the highest cathodic protection current while maintaining the lowest self-current density. Building on this insight, we analyze the dosage calculation formula for sacrificial anodes and explore the selection of design parameters related to coating breakage rates and current density tailored to various marine environments. The paper concludes with suggestions and optimized design selections supported by practical examples, providing a valuable reference for improving the efficiency and effectiveness of sacrificial anode cathodic protection in submarine applications.
