Abstract: Safeguarding one of the Algarve’s protective barriers The LIFE Ilhas Barreira project ran from 2019 to 2025 and aimed to protect species and habitats on the Barreira Islands, Portugal. Co-financed by the European Union’s LIFE programme, the project was coordinated by the Portuguese Society for the Study of Birds (SPEA), with partners Animaris, RIAS/ Aldeia, ICNF, CCMAR/UAlg, CIMA/UAlg and Ecotop-MARE/University of Coimbra.
