Abstract: The article is devoted to identifying the features of the migration policy of Bulgaria and Romania. The purpose of the study is to determine the possibilities of stopping the migration crisis with the help of national and supranational political mechanisms. The hypothesis of the study is that the main obstacle to their joint use is the entry of Bulgaria and Romania into the European Union, but not the entry into the Schengen area. It was revealed that the migration crisis that began in the EU in the mid-2010s affected them in different ways, having a more serious impact on Bulgaria than on Romania. It and the subsequent COVID-19 pandemic served as triggers for improving the migration legislation of both countries.
