Abstract: Blurring the boundaries between leisure and working time is an ambiguous matter. Researchers of collective forms of self-organisation refer to the issue, but on the other hand, it also appears in the discourse of corporations, with roots that can be traced to the culture of individualism. Opposition to the blurring of time boundaries, in turn, can be interpreted in accord with psychoanalytic theory, which introduces notions of the reality principle or of a symbolic castration constitutive of the subject. This article looks at the discourses of psychoanalysis and the commons in the context of limitations on leisure in modernity. These restrictions can be viewed as enclosures imposed by the logic of capitalist production, and, at the same time, the effect of a lack around which the symbolic structure produced under modernity is built. The juxtaposition of theoretical perspectives from completely different traditions of thought thus makes it possible to grasp the most ambivalent aspect of the limits on leisure time.
