The Organellar Genomes and Phylogenetic Analysis of the Marine Red Alga Palisada Intermedia from Southern China

Type: article
Abstract: Palisada intermedia, is an important marine biological resource and drug material.Due to the similar appearance of the Palisada complex and the lack of data on organelle genomes to assist in its classification, the classification status of Palisada complex (Rhodomelaceae, Ceramiales) is still unclear. We collected Palisada intermedia (Yamada 2007) and its morphological characteristics confirmed its accuracy. Here we analyse the mitochondrial and chloroplast genomes of Palisada intermedia. Its organellar genomes were determined using Illumina paired-end sequencing, and used De novo assembly for the organelle genome, then annotated it using various databases. We constructed phylogenetic trees based on the cox1 gene of 28 species and the rbcL gene of 61 species from four genera, Laurencia, Palisada, Chondrophycus, and Osmunda.Molecular phylogenies indicated that Palisada intermedia belongs to Laurencia, rather than Palisada and strongly suggest it is close to Laurencia nipponica and Laurencia pacifica. Here we suggest changing Palisada intermedia to Laurencia intermedia.
