Abstract: This article aims to examine whether China's rise in the existing hierarchies of the world economy and the International System has the capacity to undermine the foundations of US hegemony. To this end, we focused on two of the pillars of this hegemony – the role of the dollar and the privileged position of the United States in the International Monetary System (IMS) – and the actions developed by China that impact these pillars, namely, its activities aimed at the internationalization of the Renminbi and China's rise in the IMS hierarchy. We conclude that, despite China's advances, US hegemony remains stable.
