Abstract: but this difference was not found in patients who had a catheter for ≥7 days in both groups. There was no difference in the incidence of urinary retention, recatheterization, or volume of residual urine following the first voiding in both the clamped and free drainage groups. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guideline 6 also supports not clamping the UC, especially for shortterm catheters. In conclusion, clamping the UC (catheter duration ≤7 days) before removal can increase the incidence of UTI and lengthen the duration of the first voiding of urine postremoval as compared to free drainage. There is no difference for long-term catheters (≥7 days).
