Research on the application of sports band in college basketball teaching

Year: 2024
Type: conference-paper
Abstract: This study investigated the use of sports bands in university basketball education, specifically focusing on their effectiveness in monitoring university students' body movement indices during basketball activities. A total of 487 undergraduates from South China Normal University participated in the study. Among them, 418 students were assigned to the experimental group, which employed blended teaching methods, while 69 students were placed in the control group that utilized traditional teaching methods. By wearing Garmin vivosmart HR+ bands, the students' exercise indexes were monitored, including exercise distance, heart rate, and calorie consumption. Results showed that the experimental group was significantly better than the control group in three indicators, including exercise distance, average step frequency, and average step length (p < 0.001). The average exercise distance of students in the experimental group was 3.4 km, which was longer than that of the control group (3.1 km); the average heart rate was 132 ± 12 beats/minute, which was within the target heart rate range. In addition, participants in the experimental group showed significantly longer step length than those in the control group (0.45 m vs. 0.33 m, p < 0.001). For calorie consumption, the difference between the two groups was not significant (p = 0.57). These results suggest that the blended teaching method can enhance students' exercise efficiency and improve the effectiveness of classroom instruction. The use of sports bands facilitates the monitoring of students' physical activity, helping to ensure they remain within their target heart rate ranges. This approach supports the reform of university physical education and the implementation of physical fitness programs. Furthermore, it is essential to continue advancing reforms in university basketball teaching by utilizing sports bands to monitor students' body metrics, thereby reducing the risk of sports injuries. This integration of technology in physical education not only promotes better health outcomes but also fosters a more engaging learning environment for students.
