Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Objectives: To explore how insights from behavioral economics can enhance environmental policies and influence consumer behavior toward sustainability. To understand the psychological and social drivers behind sustainable choices. Methods: Applying behavioral economic theories that account for cognitive biases, heuristics, and social influences in consumer decision-making. Utilizing tools such as nudges, incentives, regulations, green labeling, carbon pricing, and public campaigns. Results: Identification of key behavioral drivers like loss aversion, default options, and social norms influencing sustainable behavior. Demonstration of how behavioral interventions (e.g., eco-product subsidies, awareness campaigns) lead to increased adoption of sustainable practices. Conclusion: Behavioral economics provides valuable strategies for designing effective environmental policies. To close the intention-action gap in sustainable behavior, a comprehensive approach is needed involving policy, corporate responsibility, and consumer empowerment. Ultimately, aligning personal behavior with environmental goals is achievable through thoughtful behavioral design.
