Abstract: Background. Multilevel contacts of folk and authorial creativity as two related systems of literature have interested researchers since the emergence of literature as a separate area of culture. Over time, such assistance changes, therefore in the modern period it acquires new forms. The study examines folklore intentions in short prose by contemporary Ukrainian writer Ivanna Stefiuk. Methods. The article uses the method of comparative analysis, synthesis, comparative-historical, typological. Results. Ivanna Stefiuk calls her short prose, published in the collection "About You", "images", although we can say that the genre palette of these works is somewhat wider, since some of them are more like stories. Some of them, with their psychologism and laconism, are quite similar to short stories. The relationship of the writer's works with folklore is of a specific nature: it can be characterized as concentrated in several planes and influencing the motive, plot, form, while not violating the laws of artistry, the author's vision of what is described. The analysis of the concepts of "nationality", "folklorism", "folklore intentions" determines the relationship between folklore and literature in the direction from the first studios to the present. This demonstrates the author's unique approach to the use of folk art, ethnographic features of the region, dialect, since she is a writer and at the same time a bearer and retransmitter of this heritage, including perfect mastery of the local dialect. Conclusions. It is worth noting the complex and individual-internal nature of folklore-literary interaction in Ivanna Stefiuk's short prose. Folkloric intentions in her works have the imprint of biographicalism, and sometimes reflect the pages of the author's own biography; mythological tales are imbued with interesting folklore motifs; at the same time, ethnographic details convey the specifics of Bukovina's culture, and dialectisms logically fit into the stories, adding to them a relaxed perfection and naturalness. Her prose touches, individual stories that, with their chronotopic attachment, gravitate to the past, at the same time remain modern, relevant, because the main thing in them is human relationships and emotions, as well as the continuity of generations, the peculiarities of identity.
