Modernization and Development Directions of the Tool for Electric Arc Welding of Anchor Rods Made of Reinforcing Steel

Abstract: The technology of electric arc welding of anchor rods has been actively used for more than 50 years in various industries.During this time, it went through a long path of changes and development, the tool for arc welding of anchors, which was called the " welding gun", underwent a corresponding change.The purpose of the research is to analyze the development of the design of the welding gun for welding anchor rods and to identify directions for the development of improved technology based on the new design of the gun when using anchors made of reinforcing steel.The methodology is a patent search and critical analysis of gun designs for electric arc welding of anchor rods.The work includes a retrospective analysis of the design of guns for welding anchor rods with a smooth cylindrical surface.Particular attention was paid to the analysis of rod clamping devices and drives for moving anchors during the welding process, means of ensuring high-quality weld formation.Disadvantages of the considered design solutions of guns, which prevent their use for reinforcing steel rods, have been revealed.Possible directions for improving the design of the gun and developing technology for welding anchor pins based on it are indicated.The scientific novelty of the work is the introduction of the fact that in modern scientific and technical literature, the technology of welding studs is considered only within the framework of existing welding methods described by the ISO 4063 standard.There is also no information about attempts to find alternative methods of welding anchors, in particular from reinforcing steel, or the use of elements of other technologies within the framework of existing methods of welding elements.The introduction into production of improved technology based on a new design of the gun will reduce the cost of anchoring steel-reinforced concrete structures for various purposes, including in shipbuilding and the construction of marine infrastructure, and will open up new prospects for the development of the technology of electric arc welding of anchor rods.
