Trend analysis of green resources vs fossil fuels for Romania in circular economy context
Year: 2025
Type: conference-paper
Abstract: Romania’s prospects for the continued production and development of alternative energy technologies are highly favourable, diversification and reduction of fossil fuels is a guarantee of energy independence and alignment with European energy policies. The funds of the Ministry of Environment, as well as the Ministry of Energy, should be a motivation for all citizens, and the access to these funds should be transparent for their access. Romania is undoubtedly a country with enormous green energy potential, and this can be further developed as an example of the bioenergy sector, among others. Research on Romania’s energy sector should continue, which will contribute to the improvement not only of production and consumption, but also to the identification of capture opportunities. The aim of this paper has been firstly to analyse the evolution of alternative energy sources by analysing data from the Energy Statistics Data Browser for Romania. Secondly, to evaluate the data in different sectors (industrial and municipal waste, solid and liquid biofuels, solar and geothermal energies). For analysis the independent samples Kruskal – Wallis with Dunn’s Post Hoc multiple comparisons were applied. Our results emphases: (1) for GEP, significant differences between industrial waste versus primary solid fuels, biogases versus primary solid fuels; (2) for GHP, significant differences are present in municipal waste versus biogas and geothermal. All these differences are statistically significant and show the evolution of Romania in the framework of implementing strategies to improve the quality of life of its citizens through sustainable energy policies. Romania, thanks to its geographical location, is key to the generation of such alternative energy sources and reduction of the demand for fossil energy sources, thus reducing CO 2 emissions. The figures for green energy demand are encouraging, which is why it is important to continue to encourage the industrial sector and households, through sustainable policies and tax benefits, to contribute to actions that contribute to the circular economy.
