Assessing the Effects of Systemically Delivered Herbal Antioxidants on Salivary Uric Acid Levels and Periodontal Health in Gingivitis Patients: A Randomized Controlled Clinical Trial
Year: 2025
Type: article
Study designs: Randomized Controlled Trial, Clinical Trial
Abstract: A BSTRACT Aim: As a supplement to oral prophylaxis, the study sought to determine how oral antioxidants affected gingivitis patients’ salivary uric acid (SUA) levels and periodontal health. Material and Methods: The experimental group, which received 100 mg of Septilin tablets (Himalaya Wellness Company, Makali, Bengaluru) daily for 30 days, or the control group, which did not receive any systemic therapy for 30 days, were the two treatment groups into which the 40 participants were evenly divided at random. Each group was divided into two quadrants that received oral prophylaxis and two quadrants that did not receive any treatment (non-OP). SUA and plaque index levels were assessed at baseline and 30 days. Results: PI values were reduced in all the groups where significant reduction ( P < 0.05) was observed in the OP-Septilin group followed by the Non-OP-Septilin group and the OP-Control group. SUA levels were significantly lower ( P < 0.05) in the septilin group compared to the control group. Conclusion: Septilin is effective for plaque-induced generalized chronic marginal gingivitis.
