Abstract: Purpose: This study examined the effects of different foot positions on gluteus maximus muscle activation, balance, and gait during fastspeed sit-to-stand training for stroke patients. Methods: Fifteen stroke patients participated in the study, and five patients each were assigned randomly to the AAU group, ABU group, or UBA group in fast-speed sit-to-stand training. The patients participated in this training five times for several weeks with three daily sets of 10 repetitions. The effects of the training were assessed by measuring the gluteus maximus muscle activation, balance ability, and gait speed.A Kruskal-Wallis one-way ANOVA and Dunn's post-hoc test were used to determine the statistical significance of the differences among the groups. Results: The ABU group showed significantly greater improvements in gluteus maximus muscle activation, balance, and gait ability after training compared to the measurements taken before training (p< 0.05).Conclusion: Placing the affected foot behind the unaffected foot during sit-to-stand training may be more effective for stroke patients. This positioning should be incorporated into rehabilitation interventions to increase gluteus maximus activation, balance, and gait ability.
