Abstract: Lung cancer (LC) represents the most life-threatening malignancy in the world today. Currently, low-dose chest computed tomography (LDCT) and tumor markers represent the mainstay for LC screening. However, these screening methods can only detect LC that already formed. Thus there is a need for the development of new tests for LC screening. A substantial body of evidence from scientific research indicates that dysregulated DNA methylation may play a role in the pathogenesis of a variety of diseases, including cancer. Consequently, DNA methylation testing is anticipated to become a screening test for LC. This paper examines the high-throughput detection of DNA methylation in a range of biological specimens, including tissues, blood, and others, which contributed to its potential as a marker for LC screening, recurrence monitoring, and prognosis. Numerous combinations of markers can be constructed to predict LC incidence and prognosis based on the detection of DNA methylation.
