Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: The article discusses the issue of digital transformation in museums in Ukraine, specifically evaluating the level of implementation of digital innovations in museumactivities. Museums are increasingly focusing on integrating modern digitaltechnologies, such as virtual tours, online exhibitions, interactive platforms, and socialmedia, to improve engagement with audiences and preserve cultural heritage. Inparticular, in 2024, the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Digital Transformationof Ukraine initiated the creation of museum fund registries, which allow the evaluationof the digital readiness of institutions. One of the key aspects of the study is the development of a methodology forassessing the digital transformation of museums. The selection of evaluation indicatorsincludes museum websites, traffic indicators, the use of digital elements on sites, as wellas the analysis of social media and digital projects. The criteria assessed includedesign, user-friendliness, integration of virtual tours, use of mobile technologies, andthe availability of online resources. The results of the study reveal significant diversity in approaches to digitizationamong museums in Ukraine, depending on the type of museum, available resources, and strategic priorities. Museums actively use the Sketchfab platform to create 3Dmodels, as well as mobile applications and video content on YouTube to engage newaudiences. At the same time, tools such as AR/VR and mobile applications are usedsparingly due to the high cost of implementation.Digital transformation in museums not only contributes to improving engagementwith visitors but also helps in the preservation and popularization of cultural heritage. However, successful implementation of digital initiatives requires adequate funding, infrastructure modernization, and staff qualifications. The article emphasizes theimportance of creating comprehensive frameworks to assess the level of digitaltransformation in museums, which will not only help understand current practices butalso formulate recommendations for further development of digital strategies in themuseum sector.
