They reflect a nation’s history, values, ways of thinking, and social customs, serving as treasures of cultural heritage. As an essential component of idioms, numerical idioms have attracted significant scholarly attention due to their unique formal, semantic, and rhetorical characteristics, as well as their cultural backgrounds. This paper focuses on the vague semantics in Chinese numerical idioms, analyzing the types of semantic vagueness in numbers and summarizing appropriate translation strategies, aiming to provide new insights for the Japanese translation of Chinese numerical idioms.
