Literature Review of English and Chinese Research on Machik Labdrn and Tibetan Buddhist Chd Tradition
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: The Chd was founded in the 11th century by the Tibetan female tantric master Machik Labdrn, and is the only school in Tibetan Buddhist history founded by a woman. The teachings of Chd have been passed down through other schools and have become an important method for practitioners. At present, the study of Machik Labdrn and the Chd by Chinese academia is still in its early stages, while the foreign academic community has a variety of approaches and fruitful results, but there is a lack of comprehensive articles that summarize the research. At the same time, there is limited communication between Chinese and foreign academics in this field. This paper uses the methods of literature research and comparative research to sort out the research results of Chinese and foreign scholars on Machik Labdrn and the Chd, build a bridge between Chinese and foreign research, and propose suggestions for future research directions, laying a foundation for further promoting the research on Machik Labdrn and the Chd.
