Field incidence of Angoumois grain moth Sitotroga cerealella (Olivier) and susceptibility of stored rice
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Susceptibility of different rice varieties to Angoumois grain moth (AGM) infestation was assessed before harvest and during storage conditions. A total of 18 rice varieties (released and pre-released) were monitored for AGM infestation. In the pre-harvest stage, BPT 3291 and BPT 1768 exhibited significantly lower adult emergence (57.0 and 61.0 moths, respectively) with 0.67% grain damage. Conversely, BPT 2270 and BPT 2824 recorded maximum adult emergence (267.67 and 269.33 moths, respectively) and grain damage (6.33 and 6.67%, respectively). In storage conditions, BPT Rice 2841 was found least susceptible with the lowest average number of AGM adults (72.67) and minimal grain damage (5.67%), while BPT 2595 was the most susceptible variety with maximum emergence of moths and grain damage (362 moths and 14%, respectively).
