Abstract: 在当代文学研究领域，对叙事技巧的深度剖析始终是探索文学作品内涵与价值的关键路径，本文将对迈克尔·翁达杰所著《英国病人》中主角艾尔麦西的不可靠叙述进行解读。首先通过深入分析文本，揭示艾尔麦西在故事事实层面的偏差、价值判断层面的歪曲两方面的不可靠叙述表现形式，再从叙述目的及个人经历等方面探究原因，最后阐述其不可靠叙述给文本带来的丰富故事层次、引发读者思考等叙事效果，挖掘这一叙事手法对作品深度和读者体验的影响。In the field of contemporary literary studies, the in-depth analysis of narrative techniques remains a crucial approach to exploring the connotations and values of literary works. This paper will interpret the unreliable narration of the protagonist Almásy in Michael Ondaatje’s “The English Patient”. Firstly, by delving into the text, it reveals the manifestations of Almásy’s unreliable narration in terms of deviations in factual storytelling and distortions in value judgments. Then, it explores the reasons behind this unreliable narration from the perspectives of narrative purpose and personal experiences. Finally, it discusses the narrative effects brought about by this unreliable narration, such as enriching the layers of the story and provoking readers’ thoughts, thereby uncovering the impact of this narrative technique on the depth of the work and the reader’s experience.
