Problems of Verbal Communication in Mixed Russian-turkish Families in Republic of Turkey

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Verbal communication is a fundamental aspect of building relationships within small social groups, such as families. However, it can be significantly affected when one spouse is not a native speaker of the family's primary language. This article examines the challenges of verbal communication between spouses who speak different languages, using mixed Russian-Turkish families in Turkey as a case study. The objective of this study is to analyze the causes of communication difficulties in mixed Russian-Turkish marriages. The research is based on observations, interviews, and a comparative analysis, which help highlight the unique characteristics of ethnically mixed families. The study focuses on key aspects such as effective verbal communication between spouses, strategies to improve mutual understanding, and the resilience of families in overcoming challenges that arise in the process of family formation as a social institution. The findings suggest that language proficiency and cultural awareness are essential for maintaining harmony and preventing conflicts within mixed families. Ultimately, these factors contribute to greater family stability, both in internal relationships and in adapting to external influences.
