Type: article
Abstract: Agriculture remains a cornerstone of India's economy, with oilseeds such as soybean playing a crucial role in sustaining livelihoods and contributing to the country's agricultural output. This research paper investigates the trends in area, production, and productivity of the soybean crop in Sagar District, Madhya Pradesh, over a period from 2012 to 2024. The study explores the dynamics of soybean cultivation, focusing on key factors such as climatic conditions, agricultural practices, government policies, and market influences. Using various statistical tools like simple and compound growth rates, coefficient of variation, and linear trends, the study highlights a steady increase in the area under soybean cultivation, accompanied by fluctuations in production and productivity due to weather conditions and other external factors. Despite these fluctuations, the findings suggest a positive long-term trend in soybean farming in the region. The paper provides valuable insights into the growth patterns of soybean cultivation, offering recommendations for improving productivity and sustainability. These recommendations aim to help policymakers, farmers, and agricultural stakeholders navigate the challenges and leverage opportunities for enhancing soybean farming in Sagar District, ultimately contributing to the economic prosperity of Madhya Pradesh.
