Abstract: Shewanella oneidensis ( S. oneidensis ) MR-1 is a metal-reducing bacterium that can bio-reduce the carcinogenic hexavalent chromium (Cr 6+ ) to the less toxic trivalent Cr 3+ . Bio-reduction is assisted by the protective role of Mn-ferrite NPs to bacteria.
