Abstract: An illustrative example is R v Secretary of State ex p Hosenball [1976] 1 wlr 766, a case of deportation on national security grounds, in which Lord Denning for the Court of Appeal stated that the balance between the interests of national security and the freedom of the individual was not for a court of law, but for the Home Secretary.
