Suppressing multiband Lamb wave propagation using surface-mounted curved elastic metasurfaces

Type: article
Abstract: Vibration control in engineering structures is a critical and common challenge. Acoustic metasurfaces offer a novel approach for vibration control by manipulating acoustic wave propagation. However, conventional designs for controlling wave propagation often require material removal, such as holes or slots, which compromise structural integrity and complicate fabrication. This study introduces a surface-mounted curved elastic metasurface that effectively suppresses Lamb wave propagation without modifying the base material, thereby preserving its mechanical strength. By modulating the transmission path and adjusting the phase of Lamb wave transmission, this design achieves significant vibration amplitude reduction through destructive interferences. Structural dimension optimization enhances wave suppression across thin plates and curved beams, providing broadband suppression across multiple frequency bands. This metasurface design holds broad potential for wave manipulation and advanced acoustic device development.
