Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Summary. The introduction of laparoscopis access in colorectal surgery was only a matter of time and technological progress. According to the National Comprehensive Cancer Network total mesorectumectomy (TME) and complete mesocolonectomy with central vascular ligation (CME/CVL) have become one of the main surgical options for colon cancer. The choice of minimally invasive treatment methods for eldery patients affects the severity of pain syndrome, the speed of activation and rehabilitation of this category of patients. The aim of the study is to determine the benefits of using laparoscopic methods for the treatment of colorectal cancer in elderly patients. Materials and methods. The work is presented by comparing the indicators of a prospective study and elements of a retrospective analysis. The study involved 32 patients with previously established colon cancer. The study group included patients ages 57 to 86 years, with an average age 72.3. The inclusion criteria for the study were: tumor stage 0-2B, patients with T1N0M0-T3N1M0. Results. In our study, the average age of patients was 72.3 and 59.4% of the patients were male. The average length of stay in the hospital was 8.7 days, similar indicators in the comparison group were 11.2 days. Conclusions. The use of laparoscopic techniques in the treatment of colon and rectal cancer not only allows for improved long-term treatment outcomes and accurate staging of the pathological process. Also the use of laparoscopic techniques in the treatment in elderly patients demonstrates a reduction in the level of pain syndrome in the postoperative period.
