Type: article
Abstract: The sasi tradition, as one of the deeply rooted forms of local wisdom in Maluku’s cultural heritage, offers values of harmony and justice that remain highly relevant to community life. This article aims to analyze how the traditional values embodied in sasi can be implemented within the context of modern society in Ambon, Maluku. Using a qualitative approach, this study explores the meanings of harmony and justice in sasi, which are manifested through collective rules to protect natural resources and regulate the social life of the community. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and a review of related literature. The findings indicate that sasi serves not only as a mechanism for environmental conservation but also as a tool for fostering social equality within the community. The value of harmony is reflected in community cooperation and respect for collective decisions, while justice is seen in the equitable distribution of benefits for both individuals and the community. In the modern era, the application of these values faces challenges such as the influence of globalization and changing lifestyles. Nevertheless, the integration of sasi into local policies demonstrates its potential as a model of local wisdom that can support sustainable development. In conclusion, sasi offers important lessons for modern society, particularly in creating a balance between individual and communal interests. Furthermore, the implementation of the values of harmony and justice from the sasi tradition can serve as an inspiration for sustainable social and environmental management, such as in traditional villages and tourism villages. Recommendations are provided to local governments and stakeholders to strengthen the preservation of this tradition as part of local cultural identity.
